Obert Moses Mpofu is prominent Zimabawean Politician from Matabeleland region. He is a member of the ZANU PF politburo. He is currently is serving as the Minister of Mines in the Government of National Unity and Member of Parliament for Mguza Constituency. Born on the 12 of October 1951, Mpofu is a veteran of the Zimbabwean liberation struggle for Independence.
Prior to the independence he was a member of ZAPU Youth Movement,from 1966-67; He did his military training in Morogoro in Tanzania from 1968 where he was Camp Security Commander in Eastern Front 1970, transferred to Western Front 1971
At Independence he became a Zapu Provincial Member for Matabeleland North in 1980. Mpofu became a non -constituency MP for Zanu PF in1987-90; He was later elected MP for Bubi-Umguza in 1995-2000 where he was appointed the Deputy Minister of Industry and International Trade. In year 2000-2005 he was appointed Governor and Resident Minister, Matabeleland north, after the 2005 election as an MP for Bubi Umguza constituency he was appointed Minister of Industry and International Trade.
